Fine and delightful Dinka doll made of beads, wood and metal. Despite its designation as a doll, this charming little figure really represents a female deity. The slightly oval like face is a stylized version of facies found in western and north eastern africa. This form reached its best expression with a particular pende mask (the elongated mask), which suggest the prevalence of this female deity in this part of the continent (extending from present day Congo to Tanzania). We surmise that in ancient times, the "doll" was probably presented to the public during special ceremonies.
